Shashi Welmillage

I am a postdoctoral research associate in the Koch Lab at the Department of Plant Pathology. I earned my PhD from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Now, as a microbiologist, my main focus is to study the microbiomes of turfgrass systems to understand how microbial communities contribute to turf disease resurgence and to explore their potential in sustainable, biological disease management.

As Treasurer of the UW Postdoctoral Association, I am committed to keeping the organization well-funded—securing sponsorships and managing our finances to support the vital work UWPA does to advocate for and empower postdoctoral scholars across campus.

Outside the lab, I enjoy watching movies, spending time with friends, travelling, cooking, and gardening—activities that help me recharge, stay creative, and find inspiration in everyday life.
