Symposium Awards

Win a Postdoc Travel Award

The 9th Annual UW–Madison Postdoctoral Research Symposium will be held on Monday, September 16th, at the Discovery Building. Organized during National Postdoc Appreciation Week, the symposium offers a venue for UW–Madison postdocs to share their work and connection with other local postdocs.

Poster and Blitz Talk Competition

The symposium’s Poster and a Blitz Talk competition will showcase postdoc research from all disciplines. The winners will receive substantive travel awards.

To participate, submit your ~300-word abstract by Wednesday 8/7. Notification of acceptance will be sent in late August. Blitz Talk presenters will give a 5-minute research talk designed to engage a general audience. Poster presenters will bring a poster highlighting a recent research project (feel free to re-present a poster from another conference). This is a great opportunity to share your work and hone your research communication skills.

Postdoc Art Exhibit

The symposium will also feature an art exhibit for multi-talented postdocs to share their artwork (any medium) with the postdoc community and have the opportunity to win a people’s choice prize!

Guidelines for Blitz talks and posters_2024

Past Postdoc Appreciation Week Symposium Award Winners

Annually, the UWPA hold a postdoc research symposium to coincide with National Postdoc Appreciation Week. The symposium showcases research from postdocs across disciplines, to highlight the tremendous work done by postdocs to support science and research on campus. In addition, it serves as an opportunity for postdocs to meet one another and socialize at the reception after the symposium. Currently, a 5-min Blitz Talk competition is held, and two postdocs are chosen to receive travel awards. One award is based on judges scores of the postdoc talks, and the other award is a people’s choice award, voted on by the postdocs at the presentations. Listed here are previous winners of the travel awards, who presented outstanding research during the symposium. Congratulations to all the winners, and we look forward to more great work in the future!
